Game On!
Written on October 1st, 2009 by Greener
Finally! The NHL 2009-2010 regular season starts tonight and not a day too soon. The NHL off-season is the shortest of the 4 major professional sports in North America, but I am not sure I could take another day of the shenanigans that overtook hockey the past 3 months. I no longer care that the Phoenix Coyotes are worth less than a cup of coffee from

Good ideas come from the strangest places
Written on September 25th, 2009 by Greener
It may come to little or no surprise to most of you that during my day the topic of most of my conversations is the game of hockey. Oh I might utter a word or two on the weather or offer my two cents on how the government is screwing everybody over, but if someone at my office wants my opinion on a non-work related topic it generally

2009-2010 Pre-season Ponderings
Written on September 24th, 2009 by Greener
With the advent of so many sports speciality channels, most hockey fans now have the luxury of being able to watch every pre-season game their team plays. No shift, mistake, goal, or rookie flash of brilliance will ever be missed by the TV viewing audience. But that is not necessarily a good thing. It can cause a little too much excitement amongst fans if their team of AHL’ers and Junior players

A lesson learned in September
Written on September 3rd, 2009 by Greener
I love the month of September. There are many reasons behind this affection I have for the ninth month. If you were to ask me why I liked September 25 years ago I would have told you that crabapples where almost ripe enough to pick and throw at friends and enemies alike. 18 years ago, I would have told you it was because it was the beginning of another university

Hey Patrick, can you spare a dime? Or two?
Written on August 11th, 2009 by Greener
As much as possible I always try to hold to the adage “innocent until proven guilty”. And I will try my best when it comes to the strange case that involves Patrick Kane. This past weekend, the Blackhawks forward and his cousin were out cavorting in their native city of Buffalo when they decided to take a taxi cab home. The cab was being driven by 62 year old Jan Radecki

Mid summer check in
Written on July 16th, 2009 by Greener
You know that there is little hockey news to report on when Damien Cox of the Toronto Star and Bob McKenzie of TSN both have disclaimers on their respective blogs that they are on vacation and will not be returning until the end of August. The Hockey News itself cuts back their weekly publication to once a month in July and August. The guys who get paid to write about hockey for

The Keeper of the Cup is a good man
Written on July 3rd, 2009 by Greener
Back in Dec 2007- January 2008 my wife and I honeymooned in the Czech Republic. It seems like an odd time to go on your honeymoon, but we chose it specifically because the 2008 IIHF World Jr. Hockey Championship was being held in Pardubice and Liberec which are 2 smaller cities only a hours train ride from Prague. The Canadian team had all their games in Pardubice so we never

Most hated man in Canada
Written on July 2nd, 2009 by Greener
Dany Heatly would be tarred and feathered if he got caught anywhere near Ottawa. And now, the people of Edmonton hate him as well. Heatley used his ‘no trade’ clause and nixed a deal that would have sent him to the Oilers. Lets just say that his peeps may want to remake his image after this off season is over. He is going to have to get some cute pictures
