Thoughts on Two Flyers and Hockey Hall of Fame

With the naming of a well-deserving class of 2010 Hall-of-Fame inductees in Dino Ciccarelli, Angela James, and Cammi Granato, talk of certain Philadelphia Flyers chances to make the Hall once again arose. No Panic in Philadelphia for Leighton, Laviolette

As the two top-ranked defensive teams and goaltenders in the postseason entered the Stanley Cup Finals, it appeared that this would be a titanic defensive struggle.  Surely, this series looked like one that would be extremely physical, and whichever team could scratch and claw for that extra goal to pull the game out would end up as the ultimate victor.

Gagne the Hero Again as Flyers Make History, 4-3

When history is recounted and people recall the events that led to perhaps the greatest comeback in a seven-game series in all of professional sports, the name Simon Gagne should be prominent in any recollection. Having suffered a fracture of his right foot on April 20th in game four of the first round against the New Jersey Devils when he blocked an Ilya Kovalchuk slap shot, Gagne was slated to miss

Still Awaiting Next Opponent, A Warrior Falls

As they watch tonight’s game seven between the Montreal Canadiens and Washington Capitals, the Philadelphia Flyers know one thing.  They will finally know the identity of their round two opponent by night’s end. Tomorrow will be a week since the Orange-and-Black unceremoniously dispatched of the New Jersey Devils in five games. And as the waiting game continues, more bad news came yesterday on the injury front. It was announced that forward

Carcillo Strikes in OT, Flyers Take Series Lead

There are many descriptions associated with Philadelphia Flyers winger Daniel Carcillo, but “overtime hero” generally isn’t one of them. Well it is now. Carcillo potted the overtime winner at the 3:35 mark of the extra frame, beating Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils tonight at the Wachovia Center. The play originated to Brodeur’s left, where Mike Richards banked the puck off the side of the net to himself as New

Devils Take Game Two, Even Series

It wasn’t necessarily a must-win game for the New Jersey Devils tonight in game two of their series with the Philadelphia Flyers, but it was as close to that scenario as they could get.  After losing game one on Wednesday night by the score of 2-1, the prospect of going back to Philadelphia down two games to none on Sunday could not have been a pleasant one. And despite some

Flyers Take Home Ice From Devils, 2-1

Chris Pronger and Mike Richards scored second period goals as the Philadelphia Flyers grabbed game one and home-ice advantage from the New Jersey Devils, 2-1. New Jersey outshot Philadelphia, 24-14, including 9-2 in the third period, but goaltender Brian Boucher was solid in Philly’s crease, making 23 saves on 24 shots.
