Bruins resign Marc Savard long-term and coaches

Peter Chiarelli has once again shown why he is the right man for the job.  The Bruins GM has resigned all-star centre Marc Savard to a 7-year contract extension worth $4.2 million per year.

The 32-year-old centre is currently making $5 million in the final year of his four-year deal he signed with Boston during the 2006 off-season.

So far this season Savard has only played 11 games while battling injuries; he has four goals and six assists this season.  During Savvy’s three years with the Bruins he has put up 96, 78 and 88 points.

In other Bruins signing news, they have resigned their coaching staff. Assistants Doug Houda, Craig Ramsay and Geoff Ward, goaltending coach Bob Essensa and video coach Brant Berglund all received multi-year contract extensions.

The Bruins are coming off a shootout win against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night.  Currently they sit one point behind the North East leading Sabres.

Patrice Bergeron and Matt Hunwick have both had a couple days to rest after being bumped up against Ottawa.  Both players are expected to play Wednesday against Steve Stamkos and the Lightning.

After the Lightning the Bruins are looking forward to playing back-to-back games against division rivals Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs.  The Habs beat Boston 2-1 in a shootout during their Nov. 5 meeting.  Saturday night will see Phil Kessel (8g,3a) return to Boston and I am sure a horde of boos.
