Sometimes I wonder how much it has hurt the league that they have taken away the aspect of the players "policing" themselves. I know there will be the long-standing feud between those in the NHL who are trying to totally abolish fighting from the game in an attempt to give the league a more politcally correct image and those who would like to let the boys be boys...but there always seemed to be more respect among the players when they knew the retribution they would receive on the ice if they delivered a dirty hit.

Taking away that fear has led to the players' carelessness...much like the debate that it be mandatory that every player should wear a face shield on his helmet. There are critics that believe that will lead to players carrying their sticks high and lead to yet even more injuries. But that is a subject for another day.

Thanks for the comment Jamie...much appreciated!

They need to stop with the head shots, hits from behind and knee on knee injuries. It is just careless hockey. If the hit is big and clean then it should be good old fashioned hockey. The players are bigger then in times gone by and they are training year round. They need to respect each other and go back to OLD TIME hockey. If they thought the way the old timer's did they wouldn't have these problems or at least they would be cut in half. When half the stars are out due to injury this needs to be investigated.
