Sharks Game Day – It’s Duck Season
Nov 21st, 2009 | By Melanie Smith | Category: SharksIt’s Hockey Night in California peeps, and we’re up for another rematch of the cross-state rivalry knows as Sharks v Ducks. Yes, I am well aware that the evil Ducks eliminated the Sharks in the first round of the playoffs last season. Well aware. No one needs to remind Shark fans of this. But thanks anyway, lest we forget the humiliation at the hands of those devil Ducks. Sharks players haven’t forgotten either, which should make tonight’s game a little chippy to say the least. Corey Perry (aka Corey Fairy – yes, I’m going with that), remember Jumbo Joe Thornton? Remember how he dislikes you? I don’t! Sure, you got rid of that d-bag D-man (who couldn’t even stay on his skates last night! HAHAHAHAHA!), but the core team remains the same.
So the Sharks go into the Honda Center tonight savoring the 4-1 victory over the devil Ducks from October, and riding a huge wave of momentum over last night’s beating of the Flyers. Game on! Anaheim is clearly struggling this season, with only 17 points to sit squarely at the bottom of the Western Conference while the Sharks sit firmly atop the Conference, as well as league. It also bears mentioning that a Shark now tops the Goal Leaders board. Way to go Heater! Saku Koivu could be back in the lineup tonight after missing 5 games with that mysterious “upper body injury”. Selanne (BOOO!) is a Shark killer, and could be a problem for the Boys in Teal tonight, as well as Getzlaf and the aforementioned Fairy. Goaltending is the big question, with both Hiller and Giguere struggling in net for the Ducks. I wouldn’t be suprised to see Giggy get the start against Nabokov, who was stellar last night.
Sadly, since I live in Southern California now, I will be forced to watch tonight’s game from the Anaheim Duck Prime Ticket feed. I haven’t bothered to learn the names of the Ducks TV announcers since they suck so badly, but I’ll be live tweeting the game, which should be quite colorful and filled with a lot of “are you kidding me’s”. Clearly I need a twelve step program, but not until June!
