From the Desk of ‘Da Missus
Nov 9th, 2009 | By fastnanci | Category: Da MissusMany of you know Greener is a happily married man. Yes, I say happily. Not because I have “Stepford Wife” delusions or feel the need to say that for outwardly appearances. But simply because his wife rarely comes between him and his passions which, in order are: hockey, Iron Maiden and his goatee.
Some may think, “Is ‘Da Missus such an insecure person that she just follows whatever her husband enjoys like a lost puppy dog?” Let me assure you this is not the case. Of course, all of us have our insecurities, but a wallflower I am not.
Hockey has always been a huge part of my life. Growing up in rural Cape Breton with 5 older brothers who all played hockey will do that to you. The family skate days on Boone’s pond, the backyard flooded rink with proper nets, boards and spotlights, the countless hours spent in cold, unheated arenas playing in the old steel trusses at the top of the bleachers, falling asleep on the couch on a Saturday night only to be frightened awake by the blaring screams of 5 boys shouting when the Leafs scored, the stench of sweaty hockey gear drying out in the basement. Ahh ,the memories. So, you can imagine my shock when I find myself face to face one day in May of 2000 playing an ice-breaker game with Greener and he professes his love for hockey. The reaction from me was not one of glee at the time as a flash of all of the aforementioned came rushing back. However, as our relationship developed, and we only had one TV, I found myself getting back into the game. Heck, we marched into our wedding reception to the old HNIC theme! (Just don’t mention that to the missus who wrote it, she may seek royalties) In fact, if I recall, I think it was my suggestion to spend our honeymoon at the World Junior Hockey Championships.
So now, as I find myself playing the role of official note taker during most hockey games, and spell-checker for all the great posts Greener supplies Puckdrop with, I felt it was about time I put my stamp on Puckdrop as well. Why does he get all the fun?
Oh, and as for Greener’s other two passions, Iron Maiden takes up at least a gig of space on my iPod, and the goatee, we’re working on a compromise….
