Alfie here | PuckDrop Update

Nov 21st, 2009 | By Alfie | Category: Alfie

PuckHeads,

It is 3AM and it’s Alfie here checking in before I hit the Swedish Sauna (no joke, I am hopping in before I hit the wrapper(bed)).  I just want to send a huge shout out to everyone who is helping contribute to this site as a fan or as a writer.

Last week, I had one writer, one very damm good and funny writer “Greener” aka Keith Green.  Greener is a great friend of Alfie’s and as mentioned we set out one day last May in the thick of the playoffs to make use of one of my domain names I bought on a whim.  We are an odd lot as I played hockey all my life, and sort fell out of the NHL watching loop despite my love for the Habs.  Greener on the other hand reminds me of the foreigners who go skating down by the Toronto waterfront rink and stay to the very edge in fear they may fall through the ice if they go in the middle.  It is quite bizarre but I saw it with my own eyes and the funny thing is that they are safer in the middle where there is no concrete but go figure.  Maybe I wouldn’t do so well in the jungle or some foreign environment, and well, Greener claims he can’t skate a lick.  But he knows, lives, and breathes hockey, and he is an awesome writer so I convinced him to start writing some material on PuckDrop for fun, and he took to it like a kid in a candy factory.

So to Greener and his Wife FastNanci (she his a hockey fan in her own right and wrote an awesome post) thank you for helping and getting this going, and putting up with my craziness. So this past Monday, I decide it is time to ramp this puppy up and get some more content, get some more perspectives from different fans, writers, and existing bloggers, and I put Twitter to use, and I am ecstatic to say that 13 teams are now represented with more to come on board, and I couldn’t be more pumped for everyone involved.  Greener now has more people to talk his passion with, debate with, and I encourage the debating for all in the comments section.

As all of this is happening so fast, traction is gaining, traffic is skyrocketing,  and I am asking  for everyone’s patience.  Personally, the design of this site absolutely sucks as bad as the Leafs right (well my site is not that bad) now and it will slowly continue to improve.  I promise that if you guys and ladies write great content, I will  make sure the design improves with some interesting twists to boot.  I live for this stuff and I can’t remember the last time I have had this many all nighters, so that means I am crazy and/or having fun. Check Both.

Think of it along these lines: hockey masks weren’t invented overnight, the game didn’t get as fast as it is today overnight, and this site is no different. It is going to change and hopefully change fast so ignore the design for a bit and let the doubters doubt while you have fun.  Right now we are hand pumping a dolly on an old train track with wooden square wheels, and before you know it we are going to be cruising in a pimped out Lamborghini.

The Swedish Sauna awaits,

Alfie

  • PhilaDAVEia,

Thanks for the comments and yes indeed Alife has a real Swedish (maybe not Swedish) sauna just about every night. Keeps my legs loose and the pucks in the net!!!

Appreciate everyone's comments and hopefully we can be working off of a new design soon enough. It is in my head, just need to get it to the site.

Keep your sticks on the Ice,
    Alfie
  • Hmmm....so it was a SWEDISH sauna? Sure you're not the REAL Alfie?

Loving the way things are coming along and the way that everyone is coming in with a great attitude and love for their respective teams. Thanks so much for the forum to share and express our love for the game!

Oh, and BTW, nice game last night against Buffalo.
