Game On!

Finally!  The NHL 2009-2010 regular season starts tonight and not a day too soon.  The NHL off-season is the shortest of the 4 major professional sports in North America, but I am not sure I could take another day of the shenanigans that overtook hockey the past 3 months.

I no longer care that the Phoenix Coyotes are worth less than a cup of coffee from Starbucks.  Please let there be no more Judge Redfield T Baum.  No more Jim Balsillie and Gary Bettman bickering.  I do not follow the NHLPA or how they erred when they fired Paul Kelly.  The stories about Dany Heatley can focus on how he is playing on a wing with Joe Thornton and not how the populace of Ottawa want to tar and feather him and then string him up by his neck from the Peace Tower.  And Patrick Kane can go back to being the star winger for the Blackhawks instead of the drunken buffoon who assaulted a cab driver over chump change.

From here on the spotlight should shine on the important things, the crushing bodychecks, the sublime passes, the beauty goals and the glorious saves that make hockey the greatest game on Earth!

It is game day and I am grateful!
