Draft smaft!

Draft smaft!

It is 3 days since the draft and I am still rotted at the Canadian media.  I was so excited on Friday.  If you believed what the press was pumping out, and I certainly did, then you would have thought that the NHL was about to become the Ringling Brothers Circus, an Iron Maiden concert, and the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange

Draft Day and other musings

Draft Day and other musings

I love the NHL entry draft.  When I get my copy of the top 50 prospects from the Hockey News sometime in April, I read it from cover to cover numerous times up to the draft.  Then, as the excitement builds in the week leading up to draft I will have it with me everywhere I go.  I am like a religious zealot and that

Vegas baby Vegas

Vegas baby Vegas

The NHL is holding its annual awards ceremony tonight in hockey mad Las Vegas.  I say that tongue-in-cheek as there are very few people in Vegas outside of bookies and a handful of compulsive gamblers who know that the NHL exists.  Hell, if Ovechkin, Gonchar and Kovalchuk walked into a casino on the strip, they probably be mistaken for Russian mafia instead of hockey players.

Storybook ending

I trust you all are recovered from your Stanley Cup hangover.  I am.  Took the whole bloody weekend, but was worth every second. What a game!  What a finish!  The NHL could not ask for a better end to the season than what the Penguins and Red Wings gave the fans.  And lets give the Penguins some kudos for they pulled off one of the greatest comebacks of all time.  They

The Cup is out tonight!

The Cup is out tonight!

So pumped today.  Hard to focus on anything not hockey related.  It is kind of bittersweet as I am excited that the climax is here and someone is going to be a hero tonight and hoist the Cup over their head in victory.  But on the other hand, tomorrow the season will be over and I will only have the draft on June 26 to look forward to.  But tonight is all about the glory!  Alfie will be over this evening and we will be doing our game 7 pre-game report.  Stay tuned! The Greener \m/

To err is human. To ignore is a NHL referee

To err is human. To ignore is a NHL referee

If you are talking to a fan of the Penguins or the Red Wings you can be sure the issue of the refereeing in the finals will surely pop up in the conversation.  I always laugh how fans of one team will see the atrocities committed on the ice against their team but on the flip side, have no problem with their team getting away with every infraction imaginable.  If you

Oh Dany Boy. The Pipes, the pipes are calling…..

Oh Dany Boy. The Pipes, the pipes are calling…..

I love a good sports soap opera and there is one raging today in Ottawa.  A couple days ago star winger Dany Heatley asked for a trade and since then, the entire populace of Ottawa has been in an uproar not seen since the days of….er…well….ever.  People in Ottawa don’t really protest anything.  They ‘tst tsk’ under their breaths, shake their heads and go about their daily business.  But believe

Be careful what you wish for

Be careful what you wish for

For the past while I have held off posting anything about the soap opera that has been going on between the NHL and the Jim Balsille take over bid for the Phoenix Coyotes.  I admit, it was mostly because I had a hard time wrapping my head around the entire issue.  When I first heard of the Balsillie plot, I was happy because I thought the NHL was being foolish in

Banned from Game 7

Banned from Game 7

It is official.  I have been banned from watching game 7.  Well, not entirely.  I have just be banned from watching the game with my wife.  Allow me to explain. Hailing from the province of Nova Scotia, the better half of the Greener household has been rooting for homeboy Sidney Crosby and the Penguins since the start of the playoffs.  Not that she is on any bandwagon.  She saw Sidney
