Flyers Experiencing Power Outage

Flyers Experiencing Power Outage

Usually when you allow only three goals in a three game road trip you would come home with a sweep, maybe two wins at worst.  Not for these suddenly powerless Philadelphia Flyers. After winning their first game of the trip, a 3-0 victory against an equally punchless Calgary Flames lineup, Philadelphia managed just one more goal over the next two games.  They were shutout by

Bruins losing streak hits double digits

Hoping to avoid their 10th consecutive loss, the Boston Bruins entered their Saturday matinee against the Vancouver Canucks with high hopes and lots of energy.  However, Roberto Luongo proved to be too much for the defensive minded Bruins beating them 3-2 in over time. The Bruins came out flying, scoring less than two minutes into the game with a power play goal scored by their

Flyers Searching for Consistency and Goals

Flyers Searching for Consistency and Goals

In losing Wednesday night’s game 1-0 to the team ranked last overall in the National Hockey League, the Philadelphia Flyers missed a golden opportunity to firmly entrench themselves in the #6 spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race.  Coming off of a 3-0 victory over the Calgary Flames Monday night, Philadelphia continued their schizophrenic ways of looking like a “contender” one game, and strongly resembling a “pretender” the next. Squandering

Sabres Couldn’t Stop the Senators

Sabres Couldn’t Stop the Senators

Hey All, Man, I was hoping to be able to write a blog about how the Sabres stopped the Sens in their tracks, both in their now 10 game winning streak, and 4th win when facing Buffalo this season.  It would’ve been a great win for the guys, not only to regain some momentum to get themselves out of the current slump, but because it’s Ottawa… and ever since the

The Bear Essentials; Bruins can’t win without goals!

The Bear Essentials; Bruins can’t win without goals!

If the Boston Bruins do not make the playoffs in the 2009-10 season, they can look back and pin point the time where everything went wrong.  Ever since the Bruins victory at the Winter Classic against the Philadelphia Flyers they have been in a downward spiral. The Bruins opened their February schedule on a similar note.  The Washington Capitals invaded the TD Garden and showed the Bruins why they are sitting pretty atop

Flyers Take on New-Look Flames

Flyers Take on New-Look Flames

The Philadelphia Flyers begin a 3-game west coast trip tonight against a Calgary Flames team that underwent a major shakeup yesterday.  Bruising defenseman Dion Phaneuf, towering 6′ 6″ defense prospect Keith Aulie and winger Fredrik Sjostrom were dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs and in exchange received defenseman Ian White and three forwards: Niklas Hagman, Matt Stajan and Jamal Mayers. The Flames were in need of change.  Prior to their last game, a 6-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers Saturday, Calgary

Krajicek Another Band Aid for Ailing Flyer Defense

Yesterdays announcement that the Philadelphia Flyers had signed 26-year-old ex-Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Lukas Krajicek is another sign that GM Paul Holmgren is not making any progress in trade talks to acquire a rearguard from a current NHL roster. With Ryan Parent (back surgery – out until March)  and Danny Syvret (shoulder seperation – not progressing well in rehabilitation) on the mend, the Flyers have been going with just six

Horrible Third Period Costs Flyers Game

Horrible Third Period Costs Flyers Game

Heading into the third period against the Atlanta Thrashers, the Philadelphia Flyers led 3-1.  On the strength of three second period goals, they had taken total control of the game and looked to erase the memory of Sunday’s ugly loss against the Pittsburgh Penguins.  With a 22-0-2 record for the season when leading after two periods, the game seemed to be in the bag.  But for the second straight game, Philadelphia lost a

Flyers Walk Defensive Tightrope as Holmgren Seeks Deal

Flyers Walk Defensive Tightrope as Holmgren Seeks Deal

Philadelphia Flyers GM Paul Holmgren is looking to make a deal for a solid NHL-quality defenseman.  And it’s no wonder.  With Ryan Parent undergoing successful back surgery yesterday and out another 6 weeks and Danny Syvret expected out another couple of weeks with a seperated shoulder, Philadelphia’s core of defenseman is seriously depleted. That leaves Chris Pronger, Kimmo Timonen, Matt Carle, Braydon Coburn, Oskars Bartulis and Ole-Kristian Tollefsen as their

Bergfors: Big Problem?

Bergfors: Big Problem?

Rookie Niclas Bergfors has had a hell of a season. When the season started he came out swinging. He got his first point, an assist, in the first game of the season, against the Flyers. He got two goals and four assists in October, four goals and six assists in November, and seven goals and three assists in December. He even got two goals in a 3-2 win against the Capitals on November 4th and has scored a goal in all four games against the Penguins. For a while, he was neck-and-neck with John Tavares for the title of "highest scoring rookie". But January has not been kind to Bergfors.
