It’s become obvious now to even non-Devils fans: The Devils have some problems. After losing to the Flames last Friday 5-3, the Devils got blanked by the league-worst Oilers, 2-0. The Devils are 3-6-1 in their last 10 games. If, in the first three months of the season, you had told me that the Devils would acquire Ilya Kovalchuk and that by March 7th they would only have 10 wins out of 25 games, I’d say you were crazy. But that’s how it stands.
It’s hard to believe, but a Trade Deadline deal that GM Paul Holmgren got done last season is actually looking a lot better now. Holmgren took a lot of heat for trading fan-favorite Scottie Upshall to the Phoenix Coyotes for what appeared to many to be a one-dimensional player, Daniel Carcillo. This is a player that then-Coyotes coach Wayne Gretzky would make a healthy scratch periodically for taking an exhorbitant amount of misconduct penalties.

Peace. Love. & the Pittsburgh Penguins. (still a working title.) I apologize for not posting the past few days, and oh what a few days it has been in the hockey world! Between the Olympics, the return of the NHL and the trade deadline there is so much to talk about! Let’s start with the Olympics. I love Olympics in general, but especially Olympic hockey. Enemies come together (Richards, Pronger
There were two significant dates for Tim Thomas as he entered his first game in what seems lifetime against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night. Jan. 14 was the last time that Thomas got a win for the Boston Bruins and Feb. 2 was the last start. So with a little over a month between starts Thomas wanted to prove that his team could still depend on the 2009
I guess you could say it was the worst possible timing for a performance like the Philadelphia Flyers gave during a 7-4 loss to the Florida Panthers on Wednesday night in Miami. The team’s GM Paul Holmgren had stood pat as the NHL Trade Dealine came and went earlier in the day without the Flyers making as much as a ripple in the league’s ocean of activity. Holmgren, who has pretty much tied his own hands with regards to the possibility of making any
Hello PuckDrop readers, and welcome to another article from your friendly, neighborhood Leafs fans over at LeafsWire. First off, we want to apologize that we didn’t continue our mini-series of articles leading up to trade deadline. We got sick, dealt with some school issues, and generally didn’t even update our own site. But hey, thats life. As you know, yesterday was the 2010 NHL Trade Deadline. After 3:00 PM,
In past years, the NHL trade deadline day was always a huge event in Philadelphia. But since the commencement of the salary cap and an increasing number of No-Trade / No Movement Clauses in players’ contracts, today’s 3 PM deadline came and went without much ado for the Flyers. And that is not necessarily a bad thing. Last night the Orange and Black picked up right where they had left
Having won their last 4 contests heading into the Olympic break, many wondered if the Philadelphia Flyers would be able to regain the momentum they were building on when the NHL season resumed. After last night’s 7-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning in their first game back, which included a 5-goal third period, the Orange and Black seemed to have no problem picking up where they left off. Mike
The Boston Bruins effort against the Montreal Canadiens, on Monday night, once again showed that they are in dire need of some help on the offensive side of the puck. After Tuukka Rask held the Bruins in the game for the first 40 minutes, the young netminder couldn’t hold off the Habs in the third as they beat the Bruins 4-1. It was the first game back after the Olympic
